Spiritual Psychotherapy for Inpatient Residential & Intensive Treatment (SPIRIT) is a flexible, spiritually-integrated, cognitive-behavioral informed, group psychotherapy program for acute psychiatric settings. Previously, we developed SPIRIT support from the Bridges Consortium, and evaluated its utility to over 1400 acute psychiatric patients at McLean Hospital (as featured in the Harvard Gazette and in The American Journal of Psychotherapy). We subsequently created a training program in SPIRIT, with support from the Spiritual & Religious Competencies Project, and collaborated with colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania to evaluate its relevance to diverse patients. We are now collaborating with colleagues in the Netherlands, Brazil, and Middle East, to translate and culturally adapt SPIRIT internationally, with support from the John Templeton Foundation (JTF).
